University students show high financial inclusion but lagging financial literacy: among students the gap reaches 22.66 percentage points (SNLIK 2025). This raises the question of whether convenient digital financial services actually produce sound financial behavior. This study analyzes the effects of financial technology, self-control, lifestyle, and financial knowledge on the financial behavior of university students in Wonosobo Regency, both partially and simultaneously. A quantitative causal-associative design was applied to a population of 10,625 active students. The sample size was set with the Slovin formula (e = 10%), cross-checked with a statistical power analysis (GPower), and drawn purposively, yielding 105 respondents who had used financial technology for at least three months. Data were collected with a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed by multiple linear regression (IBM SPSS Statistics 27). Financial technology, self-control, and lifestyle had no significant partial effect, whereas financial knowledge had a positive and significant effect and was the dominant predictor. Simultaneously, the four predictors were significant (Adjusted R² = 0.920). Variance decomposition shows that about 88% of the explained variance is shared among predictors, so the non-significance of the first three variables reflects small unique contributions rather than the absence of a relationship. Because the model tests direct effects only, mediation by intervening variables is proposed as an agenda for future research. Financial knowledge is the key factor shaping responsible student financial behavior amid easy access to digital financial services.
