Abstract

Moral education (akhlak) is a fundamental component of Islamic education that aims to develop individuals with noble character based on the values of the Qur'an and Sunnah. In the development of modern education, the concept of akhlak is frequently associated with morality, ethics, and character. Although these four concepts are closely related to human behavior, each has distinct philosophical foundations, sources of values, and orientations. This study aims to examine the fundamental concepts of akhlak, morality, ethics, and character, as well as the essence of moral education from an Islamic perspective, through a library research approach. Data were obtained from the Qur'an, Hadith, classical Islamic texts, and contemporary literature on Islamic education. The findings indicate that akhlak is rooted in divine revelation and constitutes a primary objective of Islamic education, while morality develops from societal norms, ethics originates from philosophical inquiries into right and wrong, and character represents the integration of values that become embedded in individual habits. Furthermore, moral education in Islam is not merely oriented toward the transmission of knowledge but also emphasizes the transformation of individual personality through role modeling, habituation, guidance, supervision, and the internalization of Islamic values.
