Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that requires long-term treatment and adherence to medication to prevent complications. Low medication adherence remains a common problem among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. One way to improve medication adherence is through health education using video media. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of health education using video media on improving medication adherence in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study used a systematic review method with the PRISMA approach. Article searches were conducted through the Google Scholar database and the Garuda Portal using keywords related to Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, health education, video media, and medication adherence. The selected articles were full-text articles published between 2021 and 2026, meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Sixteen articles were analyzed in this study. The review results showed that most studies reported that video-based health education was effective in improving medication adherence in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients. In addition to improving therapy adherence, video media was also shown to improve knowledge, understanding, self-care activities, and the ability to manage the disease independently. The majority of studies showed significant results with a p-value <0.05 after providing educational interventions using video media. Health education using video media has been proven effective in improving medication adherence in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Video media can be used as an alternative educational method that is engaging, easy to understand, and in line with technological developments to support successful therapy and control of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
