Abstract

Qur’anic and Hadith studies face methodological challenges in negotiating classical interpretative authority with contemporary social acceptance. Diverse socio-cultural and digital shifts demand an approach that preserves the normative dimension of texts while accounting for their applied social context. Therefore, this study aims to conceptually analyze the dynamic relationship between interpretative authority and social acceptance in Qur’anic and Hadith studies through the lens of Islamic sociological jurisprudence. Employing a qualitative library research design, this study systematically analyzed 32 relevant academic publications spanning 2020 to 2026. Data were analyzed textually and reflectively through identification, coding, and categorization to produce a core theoretical synthesis. The conceptual findings suggest that while classical authority (rooted in the Qur’an, Hadith, tafsir, and fiqh) remains the epistemological foundation, its ongoing legitimacy requires active negotiation and public acceptance. Through the perspective of sociological jurisprudence and the living law, this synthesis illustrates that religious norms acquire their social form when integrated with maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. This ensures that the contextualization process upholds public interest (maslahah) and justice. Ultimately, this study offers a conceptual framework for developing more dialogical Qur’anic and Hadith studies, demonstrating how religious authority transforms without severing its continuity with classical tradition.
