Abstract

General anesthesia involving the use of an endotracheal tube (ETT) is commonly used in surgical procedures and can lead to complications such as postoperative sore throat (POST). This condition can affect patient comfort following anesthesia. This study aims to determine the prevalence of sore throat in patients after general anesthesia using an ETT. This study is a quantitative study with a descriptive design. The sample consisted of 58 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted through observation and interviews using an observation sheet and the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Data analysis was performed descriptively to describe the characteristics of the respondents, the factors influencing throat pain, and the degree of pain experienced by patients following general anesthesia using an ETT. The results of the study showed that all patients (100%) experienced postoperative throat pain, with moderate pain being the most common (53.4%). The incidence of pain varied based on age, gender, duration of ETT use, ETT size, and ASA classification. These findings indicate that throat pain remains a common complication, necessitating attention and preventive efforts from healthcare professionals, particularly anesthesiologists, to minimize its incidence and severity
