Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) face increasingly complex market demands encompassing product quality, pricing, halal assurance, product safety, environmental sustainability, and compliance with global market standards. Halal certification and green economy practices are commonly positioned as separate agendas, although they have strong potential for integration as a strategy to strengthen MSME competitiveness and sustainability. This community engagement program aimed to enhance the capacity of the MSME community to understand the integration of halal certification and green economy practices as a foundation for sustainable business development and global market orientation. The program was conducted online on September 26, 2026, in collaboration with the SSQ Holistik Internasional–Malang MSME Community and involved 40 participants. The program employed a participatory capacity-building approach through needs assessment, education, mentoring, applied discussions, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test assessments. The results indicated an increase in participants’ average understanding from 69 to 87, representing an 18-point improvement (26.09%), with a normalized gain score of 0.58, categorized as moderate. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the educational intervention in enhancing participants’ knowledge capacity. However, increased knowledge does not necessarily represent actual changes in halal certification ownership or the implementation of environmental practices. Therefore, further assistance is required through halal certification support, halal traceability, resource-efficiency measurement, waste reduction, and green product development.
