This community service program on the socialization of coal quality and environmental mitigation efforts was conducted to enhance green energy literacy and strengthen local capacity in addressing energy and environmental challenges. Indonesia remains heavily dependent on coal as its primary energy source, yet the low quality of domestic coal, characterized by high sulfur, ash, and moisture content, contributes significantly to carbon emissions, air pollution, and solid waste residues. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach with participatory action research (PAR), actively involving the community in problem identification, planning, implementation, and reflection. The results revealed an increase in public knowledge regarding the relationship between coal quality and environmental impacts, alongside the emergence of collective awareness to propose relevant mitigation measures. Furthermore, the program emphasized the importance of adopting coal upgrading technology as a technical solution to reduce sulfur content and enhance calorific value, thereby improving combustion efficiency and reducing environmental burdens. The integration of scientific analysis, energy policy, and community participation positions this program as a strategic model of community service that supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and Goal 13 (Climate Action).
